Inside the Outdoors Foundation

Inside the Outdoors ® experiential programs serve over 125,000 Southern California students annually, making a child’s connection to the natural world real by bringing to life the science and social science concepts. All Inside the Outdoors programs are directly aligned with the California Science Content Standards.

Inside the Outdoors offers Traveling Scientists who visit schools and use story-telling, live animals and science labs to support traditional classroom learning; exploratory Field Trips that take students out of the classroom and into the natural world at more than a dozen Inside the Outdoors field sites ranging from wetlands to wilderness; and the life-changing Outdoor Science School offering four- and five-day science and nature immersion programs. Inside the Outdoors also provides Teacher Institutes to enrich classroom learning and Inside the Outdoors Adventures open to the community.

Each year, Inside the Outdoors provides full and partial scholarships to approximately 55,000 low-income students. Inside the Outdoors is able to do this through generous donations from individuals, foundations and corporations.

About Inside the Outdoors

Inside the Outdoors was established in 1974 to empower students, teachers, parents, and the community to explore the natural world, while expanding their knowledge and understanding of science and the wonders of nature.

Inside the Outdoors, administered by the Orange County Department of Education, is self-supporting and does not receive any tax-based funding. The Inside the Outdoors Foundation is a tax-exempt organization dedicated to supporting the Inside the Outdoors mission by raising funds, as well as building community awareness and involvement for Inside the Outdoors.
