Job Opportunities

Instructor
Live your passion! Wake up every morning to the fresh scent of pine trees, a crisp chill in the air, and the opportunity to make thousands of new friends during the school year. As an Instructor, you will be both a counselor and teacher to fifth and sixth grade students at a residential Outdoor Science School. Live and work at one of five sites in the local San Bernardino mountains. Besides supervising students, you will lead star walks and night hikes, lead songs and games, and teach academic trails on life sciences, geology, and environmental studies. You will live on site from 10:00 a.m. Monday to 11:00 a.m. Friday, with varying time off throughout the week.  Room and board is provided during the work-week. Earn up to $392 per five day week to start. A medical benefits package is also included.

If you are energetic, flexible and creative and enjoy working with children in the outdoors, then this position is ideal. Teaching experience and science knowledge is desirable, but not necessary. Each week you have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children while working with others in a team focused environment. We are waiting to hear from you!

Lead Instructor
We are currently recruiting for an encouraging leader to serve as a Lead Instructor with our residential Outdoor Science School (OSS) located at several sites in the San Bernardino National Forest. While living on-site during camp operations (September through June), our Lead Instructors provide lead work direction and guidance and monitor the activities and safety of instructors, staff, visiting teachers, and the general student population during their participation at our residential sites. In addition to leading hikes on nature trails and providing science instruction, Lead Instructors engage students throughout the day in a variety of craft, recreational and camp life experiences, while continuously monitoring to ensure their involvement and safety. Activities take place in a mountain environment and our Lead Instructors assist with the day to day successful operation of a camp site, are constantly active and engaged with students, alert to potential safety issues and perceptive and empathetic to problems and concerns students may be experiencing.

This recruitment is open to current OCDE employees only and will be used to establish an eligibility list for Lead Instructor positions. The eligibility list will remain active for ten (10) weeks and will be considered as vacancies occur during the ten (10) week period.

Applications must be received on or before August 18, 2010
