​Exploring the Great Park


Exploring the Great Park will give students the opportunity to learn about the plants and animals that live in and around the park. 

 This program supports the following Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS): 1-LS3-1. and K–2-ETS1-2.

 
From Seeds to Plants 
Students will observe plants in the garden and identify the parts of the plant.  Students will also name common fruits and vegetables and identify which part of the plant it represents.
 
Composting
Students will learn about composting and the benefits to the garden.  They will have the opportunity to interact with live worms!
 
Art in the Park 
Students will have the opportunity to draw parts of the plants and animals that they might find in the park. 
 
Live Animals
Students see and touch live reptiles representative of those found in locally and learn how their adaptations enable them to survive.
 
Optional Self-Guided Activities
Before or after the program, your school has the opportunity to explore Kids Rock and other areas of the park that are open to the public.  The balloon ride or carousel are no longer included as part of this Field Trip.
