Key Ranch

Key Ranch, a registered historical landmark, is an ideal location for learning how people lived in the early 1900’s. The George Key home, built in 1898, is surrounded by 2.2 acres of manicured landscape incorporating numerous historical items representative of a turn of the century working ranch. Your students will learn history by living it. Inside the Outdoors® at Key Ranch is a half day program.

Curriculum enrichment for 3rd and 4th grade: California History Social Science Content Standards

4th Grade: 4.2.5

Third and fourth grade students become children at the turn of the 20th century for this half day program. They will enjoy themselves during hands-on activities at these areas:

Garden
Students experience the peace, beauty, and solitude of the garden through a guided exploration of the area.

House and Chores
The students take a tour through the first story of the Key house which is furnished in a manor representative of various time periods. They also engage in common chores that children from the 1900’s would have been expected to do.

Orange Grove
An active scavenger hunt enables students to learn how a crop was managed and what the responsibilities were of the Key children. Tool Shed and Trail Students participate in a scavenger hunt and hands-on activities to learn about tools, machines, and games on a typical citrus ranch.
