3rd Grade
Feather Fun
Students discover what makes birds unique as they work cooperatively and visit different lab stations to learn about the natural history of birds. Traveling Scientists bring live birds to show the students their special adaptations.
California Science Content Standards:
3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, 3e, 5b
Catch the Rays
Light energy is the focus as students step outside the classroom to experiment with the effect objects have on light. Students create a terrarium and plant seeds to learn about photosynthesis.
California Science Content Standards:
1a, 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 3a, 3d, 5a, 5b, 5d
MAD Plants
In cooperative teams, students will design a native plant garden based on the plants’ growing requirements, learn how plants move, adapt or die in response to environmental conditions, identify native plants using their adaptations as clues, and explore the plant communities of California through a hands-on map activity.
California Science Content Standards:

Rockin' Geology!
Students learn about different kinds of rocks and their formation through interactive hands-on lab stations that let them touch and experiment with a variety of rocks and minerals.
California Science Content Standards:
4a, 4b, 5a, 6a, 6b, 6f
What's for Lunch?
Students learn about food chains and the interrelationships of plants and animals. They compare the roles of producers and consumers through outdoor games and experience live representatives of each.
California Science Content Standards:
2a, 2b, 2c, 6c, 6d
Magnets are Magnificent!
Magnetism magic is demystified as students investigate electromagnetic motors and magnets and contrast a compass at lab stations.

Amazing Animals
Live animals are presented to you and your students by our trained Traveling Scientist. Learn about the unique characteristics and behaviors of mammals, reptiles, birds, and other species of the animal kingdom.
Birds of Prey
Hawks, owls, and other raptors are brought into the classroom to teach students about the roles these predators play in the balance of nature. Students visit lab stations which include experiencing hawk vision and discovering the diet of an owl through an owl pellet dissection.
