Preschool - 2nd Grade

These programs provide a hands-on opportunity for students in preschool through eighth grade to develop an awareness and appreciation of the sciences through the exploration of the animal kingdom and physical science concepts. In addition, the program fosters a commitment to the protection and understanding of the environment and community. The programs are aligned with the California Science Content Standards and the California Science Framework to ensure that teachers’ curricular needs are met.

Preschool
Creature Feature

Students are introduced to the animal world and learn about the characteristics animals have that help them survive. Storytelling, live animals and interactive motor and communication skills are elements of the program.

Kindergarten
Me in My World

Students explore the animal world as they learn about mammals and their special characteristics. Through kinesthetic learning and repetition, students begin to understand how humans fit into the world of animals.
California Science Content Standards:
2a, 2b, 2c, 4a4b, 4c, 4d, 4e

First Grade
Scales or Slime

Students compare and contrast reptiles and amphibians to discover the characteristics of each class of animals. Experiencing snakes, lizards, frogs, and salamanders through their sense of touch and sight, students develop a more positive attitude towards these animals.
California Science Content Standards:
2a,2b,2c,2d,4d,4e

Second Grade
Eight Legs or Six?

Stereotypes and fear towards insects and spiders are lessened as students learn about the animals’ body parts and experience the thrill of touching live arthropods. Through lab stations, students discover the important role some of these animals have on Earth as decomposers.
California Science Content Standards:
2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2f, 4a, 4c

All Grades
Amazing Animals

Live animals are presented to you and your students by our trained Traveling Scientist. Learn about the unique characteristics and behaviors of mammals, reptiles, birds, and other species of the animal kingdom.

Birds of Prey
Hawks, owls, and other raptors are brought into the classroom to teach students about the roles these predators play in the balance of nature. Students visit lab stations which include experiencing hawk vision and discovering the diet of an owl through an owl pellet dissection.
